This is the 1st XI’s second season in The West Club’s Women’s Hockey league North Division, however this year they have a new member to the team in the form of our new coach, Stuart Holby. With Stuart’s wealth of experience, expertise and vision combined with a solid squad of 16, the team have approached this year with a will to secure their place within the top 4 and continue to build in order to push for promotion next season. The team has grown over the last year, with some great players joining the squad and constantly pushing up the standard. They are currently 7 games into the season, with a tally of 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses which leaves them currently sitting 4th in the table and just 8 points behind table leaders, Lansdown. There are 2 games left to play within this half of the season and securing two wins before the Christmas break would leave the 1s in a strong position to achieve their goal for this season.
The 2nd XI are captained by Dorrianne Peach. The team is currently having a great season and is lying in fourth position in the West League, Severn Division 3, having won 4 games from 6 so far. The team is comprised of players between the ages 13-57 years young. This is a great team for those who wish to develop their confidence and skills; Dorrianne’s motto is “we play to enjoy the game and have lots of fun. If we win it’s an added bonus”.
On completion of the new Astroturf at Chipping Campden school last year Blockley Ladies Hockey formed a partnership with the School to help promote the sport; especially after the surge in interest following the amazing gold medal won by the GB Women this year. An after-school club was initiated delivered by Blockley coaching staff, which welcomes boys and girls, aged between 8-16 and all abilities are welcome. The Club always asks for feedback from the children and focuses their efforts on making it a fun and enthusiastic environment. This club is looking to expand in the near future with the support of Active Gloucestershire – watch this space!
If you, or your child is interested in being involved with this great sport and club, playing and attending training, please get in touch.
